Chap -6

Devraj's tension was palpable as he struggled to focus on his duties at the hospital. His grandmother's words still lingered in his mind, weighing heavily on his conscience.

Just as he was trying to compose himself, he decided to call Shalini. "Hey Shalini, it's Devraj, Dr. Devraj."

Shalini's voice was hesitant on the other end. "Yes, Doctor."

"I need to talk to you about your brother's treatment," Devraj said, trying to sound professional.

But Shalini cut him off, her voice laced with desperation. "But, Doctor... I'm sorry, I don't have the required money."

Devraj's tone turned gentle. "Listen, I'll consider the money. Can you just meet me this evening at La Setta Cafe?"

Shalini's response was icy. "What kind of consideration are you talking about? And listen, I don't want to meet you. All of you billionaires think that girls will throw themselves at you just for money. Bastard."

The line went dead as Shalini cut the call. Devraj's eyes widened in shock. "Fuck! Is she mad?" he muttered to himself.

He tried calling her again, but she cut him off once more. Devraj's frustration grew. He decided to try a different approach and called the receptionist.

"Can you tell me the patient number 507, room number, who was discharged yesterday? I need their address."

The receptionist's voice came back on the line. "Wait... yes, Doctor. It's near Gurdaha Temple, 49/47/N."

Shalini was busy cooking in the kitchen, wearing a pair of half pants and a sleeveless t-shirt, her hair tied up in a bun. She looked like she had given up on her appearance, her clothes worn and faded.

When the doorbell rang, Abir, her little brother, got up to answer it. "Doctor bhaiya?" he exclaimed, surprised.

Shalini's eyes widened as she washed her hands and rushed to the door. She was shocked to see Devraj standing there, a serious expression on his face.

Devraj, on the other hand, couldn't help but notice how beautiful Shalini looked, even in her worn-out clothes. Her curves were accentuated by the tight-fitting t-shirt, and her hair, tied up in a bun, highlighted her delicate features.

Shalini's face turned red with anger as she confronted Devraj. "You're here? I told you I don't want any consideration!"

Devraj quickly intervened, handing Abir a toy. "Abir, take this toy and go to that room, I need to talk to your sister."

As soon as Abir left, Shalini turned on Devraj. "What the hell? Why did you send him away?"

Devraj pulled her closer causing her to fall on her couch, his hand covering her mouth. "Hey, just shut up! Can you just shut your fucking mouth for two minutes?"

Shalini's eyes narrowed, but she remained silent, her eyes flashing with anger.

Devraj took a deep breath before explaining. "Look, you want money for your brother's treatment, and I need a wife. We both are in a hurry."

Shalini's eyes widened in shock. "What? No way!"

Devraj continued, his voice firm. "Your brother's treatment will be free, and you have to act as my wife and live in my house with me."

Shalini's face turned pale. "How can I marry you? I barely know you!"

Devraj's expression turned serious. "You don't have to get tensed; it's just a contract. Don't take it seriously. My grandmother is really sick, and you just have to play the role of a wife. That's all."

Shalini looked stunned, unsure of what to say.

Devraj glanced at his watch. "If you're okay with my proposal, let me know tomorrow at 7 pm. I'll be waiting outside your house. And we are getting married this weekend !"

Shalini and Devraj both lay awake in their respective beds, their minds racing with thoughts of their earlier conversation. Shalini was worried about how she would face Devraj again, while Devraj was preoccupied with his own thoughts.

Just as Shalini was starting to drift off to sleep, Abir's cries pierced the night air. "Diii... I'm having pain..." he whimpered, his voice growing louder as he became more agitated.

Shalini's heart skipped a beat as she rushed to Abir's side. "Abir, open your eyes! Abir, please!" she begged, panic setting in as she realized Abir was slipping away.

Without hesitation, Shalini grabbed her phone and dialed Devraj's number. "Devraj, please help me! Abir is senseless!" she cried, her voice shaking with fear.

Devraj's voice was calm and reassuring on the other end of the line. "Shit! Take him to the hospital, now!" he instructed, his words spurring Shalini into action.Time seemed to fly by in a blur as Shalini rushed Abir to the hospital. She was a wreck, her mind consumed by fear for her brother's life.

Finally, they arrived at the hospital, and Devraj was waiting for them. His face was grim as he examined Abir. "I told you he needs an immediate operation! Or it's not in my hands!" he exclaimed, his words sending Shalini into a tailspin.

She collapsed to the floor, tears streaming down her face as she begged Devraj to save her brother. "Please, save him! I'm ready to marry you, please! I don't want to lose my brother!"

Devraj's expression softened as he looked at Shalini. "Okay, okay... You don't have to cry like this. Please take care... I'll manage everything," he reassured her, his voice gentle and comforting.

The operation was a success, and Abir was back to his senses in just five hours. Shalini was overwhelmed with emotion as she hugged her brother tightly, tears of joy streaming down her face.

As Abir recovered, Shalini turned her attention to Devraj, her voice filled with gratitude. "Devraj, you've bound me with debt. I'll be there for you anytime to pay my debt. If you really need me to act like a wife, then I'm okay."

Devraj's expression was calm as he nodded. "Okay, fine. And don't worry about your brother; he'll be living with you in my house."

Shalini's eyes widened in surprise, but she agreed, still trying to process the sudden turn of events.

Back at his home, Devraj showed his grandmother a picture of Shalini from social media. "Dadi, I've found someone to marry."

His grandmother's eyes lit up as she gazed at the photo. "Wow, beautiful! Where did you find her? She looks like your mom."

Devraj's eyes narrowed in surprise. "What?!"

His grandmother nodded. "Yes, your mom looked like her when she was young."

Days passed quickly, and before Shalini knew it, the wedding day had arrived. As Panditji performed the ceremony, Shalini felt a strange sensation as Devraj put the vermilion on her forehead.

"You have become husband and wife for seven lives," Panditji declared, his words echoing in Shalini's mind.

As she looked up at Devraj, her eyes welled up with tears. It was just a contract, but everything had happened so fast.

At the reception night, Shalini struggled to walk in her heavy lehenga. Devraj rushed to her side, helping her.

Shalini you and your brother are going to live in this room from today , if you want anything then call me . Shalini nodded her head . Don't expect anything from me in this marriage.

The whole night she spent on the balcony looking at the stars and crying.. thinking how her life has turned.

Next morning:

Shalini: (knocked and entered his room )Devraj your coffee.

Devrajย  was wearing a towel when he came out of the bathroom after hearing her .

Devraj : what are you doing in my room ?

Shalini's eyes captured his perfect abs she was speechless for a moment...

"Co...coffee"....

Devraj came closer to her took the coffee from her hands .

"Out now and don't come here before you knock it's not your room . Don't act like you are my real wife , you are not supposed to enter my room without my permission no matter how much emergency you do have.

Shalini's eyes welled up listening to the harsh words from Devraj.

Devraj: now what are you crying for ? I already told you not to expect anything from me !

Shalini : .........(Silence) Drops of tears trickles down across her cheeks.

Devraj puts the coffee on the side table ..

Grabs her arms harshly and shakes her !

For god's sake can you please stop this drama and tell me why are you crying?

Shalini's eyes flashes she speaks nothing..

Devraj's anger flashed like a wildfire as Shalini remained silent, her eyes cast downward. He grabbed her arms, his fingers wrapping tightly around her skin, causing her to wince in pain.

"Ahh! You're hurting me!" Shalini cried out, trying to wriggle free from his grasp.

But Devraj only tightened his grip, his eyes blazing with fury. The spot where his fingers dug into her skin began to turn blue.

"I'll hurt you more!" Devraj growled, his voice low and menacing. "Either you tell me why you're crying, or I'll hurt you more."

Shalini's eyes flashed with defiance, and she dug her nails deep into Devraj's fist, causing him to release her arm with a hiss of pain.

"I'm not your actual wife to answer your every question," Shalini shot back, her voice trembling with emotion.

With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Devraj standing alone, his chest heaving with anger and frustration. Shalini's heart felt heavy, weighed down by the pain and hurt that Devraj's words had inflicted.

Devraj tasted his own medicine.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…
